High rye mashbill – 61.3%
My Tasting Notes:
Colour: Copper
Nose: Slow to develop, old leather, orange and lemon zest, pine wood, dark caramel, cinnamon, cardamom, hints of camphor.
Palate: Quite mild for the high ABV, orange marmalade, dates, fudge, cinnamon, cloves, cardamom, mild but aromatic black pepper, slightly tannic.
Finish: Long, dry and spicy
Overall: An excellent bourbon on the peak of maturity with both rich flavours and a gentle character. Despite the high ABV the thought of adding water never crosses the mind.
Rating: 87/100 – Price Tag $$$$$ – Value for your Money $$$$$
I love the spicy flavors in this one; and you’re right – it seems surprisingly mild.
